Violinist Emma Rubinstein has had a varied career as chamber musician, soloist, professor of music and private violin instructor. She is currently concertmaster of the Idaho Falls Symphony, and regularly works as string mentor with the Idaho Falls Symphony Youth Orchestra program. Emma’s students have won numerous local, state, regional and national awards, competitions, scholarships, and top honors over the past two decades. Current and recent students have received scholarships as college music majors in violin performance and music education, won first place in senior strings division in the Idaho Music Teachers Association competition, won first place in junior strings division of Idaho MTA, been appointed concertmaster and assistant concertmaster of Idaho All-State Orchestra, and been accepted to study at the Interlochen Arts Academy. Emma’s students regularly participate in All-State, All-Northwest and All-National orchestras, have won the Idaho Falls Symphony Youth Symphony Concerto Competition, been accepted to prestigious summer programs including the National Youth Orchestra of USA, Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, Interlochen National Music Camp, and Sewanee Summer Music Festival, among others. Her former college students have won numerous concerto competitions, including the Idaho Falls Symphony Young Artists Competition, and were accepted to prestigious Master of Music degree programs, in addition to being successful string music educators. Emma was formerly assistant professor of violin at Miami University of Ohio, and visiting professor of violin at BYU-Idaho for two years. A specialist in chamber music, she was first violinist and founding member of the Santa Barbara-based Anacapa String Quartet for nine seasons. ASQ had New York management, toured widely, received a number of awards and commissions, and appeared on numerous radio broadcasts and television. She was first violinist of the Oxford String Quartet at Miami of Ohio before relocating to Idaho Falls. Emma has performed throughout the U.S., Europe, South Korea, Japan and Israel. Born and raised in Chicago, IL, Emma received her Master of Music degree in violin performance from Yale University, her Bachelor of Music degree in violin performance from Boston University, and her high school diploma from the Interlochen Arts Academy. Her principal violin teachers included Roman Totenberg, Sidney Harth, Ronald Copes and Paul Statsky. Emma enjoys gardening, taking her kayak on the river, adventuring with her husband Marlin, and is a devoted dog mom to her two pups, Sadie and Coda.
Christine Hutchings began her musical training in Rapid City, SD as a cello student of Steve Gram. She studied cello performance at the University of Wyoming with professor Barbara Thiem where she received a B.M. in Cello Performance with an emphasis in pedagogy. While attending UW she was the cello instructor of the String Academy of Wyoming. Christine also performed in various master-classes led by the Emerson String Quartet, Helga Winold, David Finckel, and Dennis Parker. After receiving her bachelor's degree she served as cello instructor with the Black Hills Suzuki Academy until completing her teaching certificate and M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from Montana State University. Christine then moved to Casper, Wyoming where she was a string specialist with the Natrona County School District, adjunct cello instructor at Casper College, and served as the principal cellist of the Wyoming Symphony Orchestra. During her 16-year tenure in Wyoming, Hutchings inspired students to live up to their full potential, find their musical voice, and become lifelong learners and lovers of music. Christine grew several thriving public school orchestra programs and instructed over one hundred string students on a daily basis. She was also chosen to represent the state of Wyoming as the conductor of the 2013, 2015, and 2017 Wyoming Ambassadors of Music High School String Orchestra across a tour of seven European countries. Christine has been teaching private cello lessons for 30 years and some of her private students have gone on to study cello at music schools around the country and globe including the Boston Conservatory, Interlochen, and Milan Conservatory’s liceo musicale Christine moved to Eastern Idaho in 2019 and is the current director of the Idaho Falls Symphony Youth Orchestra. In addition to education, Hutchings is a section cellist with the Idaho Falls Symphony and an active performer and chamber musician. When not teaching, practicing, or performing, Christine enjoys gardening, exploring Idaho on foot, and spending time with her husband, children, and their feathered & furry companions.

MELISSA
DAYLEY
VIOLA
Melissa Dayley is currently a violist with the Idaho Falls Symphony, but has had a varied musical background. Born and raised in Texas, she studied violin with Cheryl Terry and Dr. Stephanie Meyers, performing as a section violinist with the El Paso Symphony. She studied violin at Utah State University with Rebecca McFaul, and viola with Russell Fallstad, earning a BM in Music Education, along with teacher training from Mimi Zweig. She also completed Suzuki and Orff Schulwerk certification. At this time she also began playing as a violinist/violist with the Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theater. Following her undergraduate experience, she earned a MM in Instrumental Conducting under the guidance of Kory Katseanes at BYU. She conducted two non-major orchestras at the school, taught a non-major choral conducting course, and completed an internship playing with the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet in Hanoi Melissa’s first job was as a full-time orchestra director at Spring Branch MS in Houston, where she was heavily involved in running the program at the school, often collaborating with the band and choir programs for concerts, consistently earning Superior scores at UIL. After getting married and moving to Idaho, Melissa taught general music at White Pine ES in Burley, including recorder, ukulele, and the school’s after-school choir program. While in Burley, she was able to be a guest conductor for the Magic Philharmonic. Passionate about teaching and motivating students, Melissa is excited to join her colleagues at the String Academy of Idaho Falls. She also enjoys spending time outdoors, cross-country skiing or hiking, depending on the season, reading books, writing, and hanging out with her husband and two kids.

ANDERSON
VIOLIN
A former student of Emma Rubinstein, Lauren Anderson is passionate about teaching music and has been doing so for 18 years. She holds a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music in Violin Performance from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Lauren is currently a member of the Idaho Falls Symphony and has previously performed with the Boise Philharmonic, Pacific Symphony, Long Beach Symphony, and Santa Monica Orchestra. She thrives on discovering innovative methods for teaching musical concepts and loves making music fun for her students.
